The 456M (Modificata) is the evolution of Ferrari's highly successful interpretation of its traditional front engine V12 Grand Tourer 2+2 models. The 456 was the marque's first car designed with the 21st century in mind and has been much appreciated by Maranello's clients for the way it provides saloon-class comfort and roominess combined with class-leading performance and a top speed of 185 MPH. In the 2000 model many changes were made to improve aerodynamics and cooling, and the interior featuring Connolly leather was freshened with new, upgraded seats and other conveniences also fewer gauges on the dash and a new Becker stereo fitted in front of gear stick rather than behind it as in previous generations. Power remained unchanged in 2000 on the Modificata using a Bosch Motronic M5.2 engine management system; the cylinder firing order was changed to run more smoothly with torque rated at 550 Nm (56 kgm) at 4500 rpm remaining the same. The interior was sumptuously upholstered in leather as standard, with electronic adjustment facilities for the front seats, which slid forward automatically when the catch was released to afford access to the rear. The rear seats provided adequate space for adults in comfort, with good headroom, and adequate legroom for most people. Because of their location relative to the side windows, the rear seat passengers were provided with good visibility, without feeling confined by the rear pillars. Electric windows and door mirrors, a stereo system with CD player and eight speakers, plus air conditioning, were further standard features of the model.
